A request recently came through that provided an awesome opportunity to document some high-angle canyon/trench rescue training at Lake Mineral Wells State Park's "Penitentiary Hollow" climbing area. There's a number of old tales and legends about the spot including one that tells the story of an escaped convict who held out in the hollow for years before finally getting caught and lynched.

This past year, I gave a couple webinar presentations to various humanitarian aid organizations through an agency called Global Giving www.globalgiving.org, which basically hooks up potential donors with the appropriate legitimate agencies who help. The premise of the class was to teach aid organizations in remote environments how to get documentary footage for their marketing/donation materials.

D Magazine is one of the largest magazines in the United States per capita, so you can imagine how much of an honor it was to sign a freelance contract with them earlier in the year. Back from a grueling 47 mile assignment through Big Bend National Park, where we summited Emory Peak with some climbers from Australia and Canada and trekked the Mesa De Anguila, a 25 mile round trip journey across the Chihuahuan desert to the Rio Grande River into Mexico.

Back from Costa Rica - we were able to get some cool stuff down in Central America - specifically a challenging shoot of rain forest waterfall rappelling. The trip gave a good opportunity to try out the new HD video technology on the Nikon D90; worked pretty well and the audio capabilities were more than expected.
